Porter County Assessor
Jon Snyder was elected to the office of Porter County Assessor in November 2010 and began serving a four-year term January 1, 2011. Over the past two decades, Jon’s real estate career includes experience as a real estate investor, as a Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser in Indiana and Illinois, as a State of Indiana Level III Certified Assessor/Appraiser and he is currently serving his 2nd term as Porter County Assessor. Jon is a member of several REALTOR® organizations, including the National Association of REALTORS®, the Illinois Association of REALTORS®, and the Chicago Association of REALTORS®.
During his first term serving as Assessor, Jon was able to eliminate a colossal appeals backlog, streamline operations while reducing the overall number of employees in the office, and introduce a state of the art website with an online appeals function. For his efforts, Jon was recognized as a finalist for the 2012 Southshore Leadership Award, was awarded the Outstanding Public Servant Award in 2013 and Received the 2013 Honorary REALTOR® of the year award by the Greater Northwest Indiana Association of Realtors.
As the president of a Porter County small business and a property owner in the county, Jon understands the challenges that the taxpayer faces every day with property taxes. His goal is to ease the burden of the assessment process and to make it more fair and equitable for every taxpayer in Porter County.
